I believe that the 1000 Series was the only Allison Transmission in pick-up trucks.
Allison Transmission Home

Checking the web site for info on identifying your transmission or info on finding the serial number and I.D. tags would be the first step.
I'll poke around there too, and see what pops up.
I'd really want to check closely , because I thought, that in 2005 only the 8.1l had the Allison Transmission, and smaller engines used a GM unit. But I've been wrong before.

EDIT: From what I've found so far you may only have a GM 4L80-E , 4 speed automatic. Can you post a picture of your transmission, showing the pan and bell housing to be sure. Allison 1000 series has a small spin on filter at the base of the bell housing in front of the pan.

Your trans pan would be the shape of one of these.
The 2005 4L80-E is an overdrive version of the THM400, and uses the same pan.
Transmission serial number location, is listed as , drivers side , stamped into the aluminum case just above the pan gasket.

If you go to this web site , and look at the photo of the Allison 1000 series, the transmission's most easily visible feature is the spin on filter. Red in the photo.
From the application charts I've found , your truck has only a GM trans .

The 6.0 liter didn't use an Allison transmission.

Only the 8.0 liter.

I'm pretty sure only the trucks equipped with the Duramax Diesel engine got an Allison, and it was the 1000 series (with the red spin-on external filter.

W/O the external filter, my guess is that it is a GM tranny.

Had a 2003 GMC 2500 with the 8.1 and the Allison 1000. Same combination that's on my motorhome now.
