DW and I have had two shift issues with the first being not shifting to 6th on the road. I pulled over, shut down, restarted and it worked fine. Several months later, on startup at a rest area, we got the dreaded "shift inhibit" message and the tranny gear light. Shut it back down, waited a minute or two, fired it back up and all was well. I have been told these problems can be just a phantom error and if it goes away on restart not to worry about it. Hope that is good advice.

6th gear on the 3000mh is like an overdrive. It will only shift into 6th when certain conditions are met, most important are miles per hour and torque demand on the trans. Depending on conditions it has to see at 55 to 63 mph and low or no torque demand on the trans. It will not shift into 6th under acceleration. I thinks it’s fine it just did not see the conditions to shift into 6th.

I would ABSOLUTELY still check for Diagnostic Codes. It may reveal an issue that will resurface.

Said another way, most of us don't believe in miraculous spontaneous self-fixes for electronic or mechanical issues.
