2012 f350 drw 6.7 egr delete with Performance tuner

Have a question for you diesel guys out there. Bought this 2012 2 years ago to pull my 17000 lb 5th wheel. It has been egr deleted with a Performance tuner, straight dual pipes with no muffler, pretty much illegal as heck but a pulling machine. Gets about 11.5 mpg towing and 17.5 around town. Does not use a drop of oil and has 124000 miles on it. Had 84000 on it when I bought it. I think the original owner towed horses with it and it looks like he spent a bunch of money on the tuner parts. Has a K&N filter also The turbo charger opens quick and growls at me when opening. While towing I can hear that growl off and on going down the highway. Still has tons of power, ect but I hear that sound almost like an exhaust at random, even with the turbo charger at zero. What is that sound?

Just guessing.. I know nothing about diesels.. is it your waste gate control by computer or pop off ? You might need to just or check pop off or relief gate?
Good luck and let us know what you did and maybe better members then me will help you

Some questions, I have?
Do you have gauges? What do you mean that the turbo is at zero, BOOST PRESSURE?
Do you have an exhaust brake for that model year? What do you mean by the Turbo opens quick, spools up fast?

Another suggestion is to dump the K&N air filter they are junk. The K&N air filters are known to dust an engine by allowing debris to enter the turbo charger and then entering the compression chamber and scoring the piston walls. Go on line and check out the ability of the filter to filter air particles. The last time I checked it was either 99% or lower.

I would start by checking all of the air connections to insurer that they are tight from the air box to the engine and no hoses are cracked.

Growl/whooshing sound is the waste gate dumping pressure when not needed.

Yep on the k@n . Got a friend that dusted his Cummins in a ford f350 that way. Ton of money in the truck, then took out the motor with a cheap filter. At least that is what the mechanics told him.
