Annual Cost of ownership
I did a search, but can’t find anything. Is there an old thread someone can point me to that lays out the annual cost of RV ownership? IE, insurance, Maint, etc?
I realize this will vary dramatically depending on the rig cost, travel, etc, just looking for Some rough numbers than I can use for long term budgeting as we figure out if we can afford to play in this sand box.

We would at least need to know what type of RV to which you are referring. There's a HUGE difference in just maintenance costs between a pop-up travel trailer & a 45ft diesel coach.
You've got to give us some more specific details for us to even begin to answer your questions.

I live in denial. It’s a hobby, not a necessity. But I’m convinced that every dollar spent contributes to my happiness.

For my coach I figure about $1/mile overall, including fuel and routine maintenance. More for occasional things like tires, and also not including insurance. We average about 7.5 mpg.
If we were able to use the coach more that would go down considerably. A lot of the maintenance items get done annually regardless of the miles driven. I could also save a few bucks if I did my own oil changes, but I don't want to.
I realize that I do not have a truck conversion, but the maintenance work being done on our coach is done at Interstate Power Systems and they charge us the truck rate for all our routine maintenance. Your actual costs will of course depend on where you get your work done, how much you do yourself, and how much you use the rig.
Best way to approximate the costs is to have a good heart-to-heart with the service center that you'll have working in the rig for you. If this is your first diesel be prepared for routine maintenance costing more than expected.

I figure about $1,000 a year just to sit beside my house. Insurance, tags, smog, tires, oil/filter, etc.
I track our trip costs and it comes out to about $100 a day which includes gas, RV park, food, tours, clothes and stuff we buy along the way.
Everything we buy is put on a credit card and then at the end of the trip I total it up and divide by the days we were out.
That's for a Class A 36'

These are my typical costs. I'll exclude the purchase price and depreciation.
Normal annual:
1. $900.00 service for the coach and generator
2. $2,400.00 insurance
3. $1,200.00 License (Michigan)
4. $3,000.00 updates (something always breaks)
Every other year:
1. $300.00 hydronic system flush and refill
Every 5 years:
1. $1,000.00 house batteries
2. $700.00 chassis batteries
Every 7 years:
1. $6,000.00 tires (10)
We use the coach about 10,000 miles / year since we are still working full time. This equates to 3 - 4 week trips plus extended weekends when we can. Our coach averages 8 - 8.5mpg. Normally we camp in RV parks that cost $50.00 - $130.00 / night, base on location, season and amenities.
There are other costs to consider:
1. Storage or making a space at your home
2. A major breakdown
Probably more, just a quick list.

What I have found is that the annual cost of owning and operating a MH is very close to the accepted annual cost of boat ownership.
The marine industry estimates 10% of the vehicle/ vessel value would reflect the annual costs. I've found this estimate to be relatively accurate.
This is based on all services being done professionally , bank payment , boat moorage/MH storage , insurance , fuel / oil , clean and wax , license and general maintenance . To name a few.
Of course , these costs can be significantly reduced by self performing most maintenance items .

Swimmer, if you are serious about the Isata 5, be sure to see one in the flesh. I thought I wanted the 28ss until I found one I could actually see in person. My wife, who is not a large person, could barely get in and out of the passenger from inside the coach. I almost bought one sight unseen from the pictures and specs, that would have been a big mistake. I ended up ordering (last weekend) a Nexus Rebel 30R. It is much more passenger friendly. Has the Duramax Diesel, 15K towing capacity and the bed can be used while driving which is not possible in the Isata 5 30FW.
