Freightliner Tire Pressure Policy

Let's say I take my Verona LE into a Freightliner dealer for service, which would include an oil change, lube and the normal checks...belts, tires, etc.

I do not tell them what air pressure that I want in any of the tires.

My questions is: Since I did not tell them what I wanted, what pressure would you guess they would use?

My question is not about weighing the coach and deciding what to pressure run. I have read dozens of posts debating this issue. I only want to know what you think Freightliner would put in absent of any instructions from you.

My guess would be what's posted inside your coach. Usually on the left side near the driver but, that's assuming that the mechanic even knows where to look. I'd bet that they all do it different.

Of course, the moral to the story is tell them what you want. (Then hope they do it)

They should use what is on the door frame, unless the tires do not match the type and size of tires listed on the same sticker.

With that said, I've observed that many heavy truck shops seem good with ~100psi or better in every tire, regardless of what it says on the door or the sidewall. They aren't fussy about it.

When I had mine serviced, I specified the air pressure I wanted. There was a checklist item for Check Tires (100 PSI). It looked more like a local shop generated checklist rather than some official FL service list though. That may also have been a minimum.

If you know what pressures you want in tires, best thing it to tell them what you want or tell them don't mess with tire pressure. I set and monitor tire pressure. No reason for them to mess with it.

I'd guess (or maybe, would like to believe) that they'd go by the pressure indicated on the sticker in the coach.

They will go by door sticker which is for maximum load. It is a liability issue for service center, unless you specify pressures and take on that liability.

Besides the rougher ride, what is the downside of running what is on the door sticker?

A while back I took my MB powered Sprinter to a Mercedes dealer for service and when I tried to specify the tire pressure they said that they only put in what was on the door sticker...but once I got off their property I could let some out if I wanted.

Uneven tire wear is one thing. To much pressure for weight will wear center of tire, low pressure will wear edges faster. The other issue with incorrect pressures is it will result in a reduced contact patch size with road, which will increase stopping distance. Even though it may be a small difference that distance may be the couple feet needed to avoid an accident.
