Love Bugs

FYI, Most of Florida is in high season for Love Bugs...that is the PC name. Yesterday on a trip from the East Coast to the West Coast.we got a black nose on the Freightliner. Fortunately it had a heavy coat of wax on it's bow. Washing it when we got home got rid of them. A few years ago I learned the hard way that if you leave them on for more than a few days the acid in their bodies will eat through clear coat and damage the paint. So, the more wax the better.

I haven't seen any in the Central Florida area yet, and yesterday we were on the east coast from Titusville down to Melbourne - none there, either. In our area (just south of Orlando) we usually see the little critters in May and late August/early September. They are harmless (but annoying) to humans and pets, but they can definitely wreak havoc on vehicle finishes!

A lot of us use Rejex . Nothing sticks to it but the shine ( their advertising verbiage ) [emoji106]

We traveled from Northern Virginia to the FL Keys and back a couple weeks ago. I don't know what kind of bugs they were, but they were more difficult to remove than anything I've encountered before (even the insect spackling we got in YT and AK!) First time I've had to resort to using bug spot remover.

You can also use a dryer sheet to remove them, just get it damp and wipe across the bugs. Just make sure you wipe off the residue when you are done. Been doing this for years.

I was almost an month early in saying it was high season. This weekend I saw a lot of black fronted motor homes on 1-75.

March Flies, not May Flies. Here in SW Florida today it is hard to breath without sucking one in.

I just got back form Louisiana and I think the bugs were worse than FL! I'm gonna scrub the finish off of this rig!

Use dryer sheets. The bugs come off so easy.

Peroxide sprayed on them will loosen them up so they come off easier.
