I just had a Cummins-based torque upgrade to 1,150 lb. ft. torque completed on my 2018 Verona 36VSB (2017 Freightliner Chassis) which came from the factory with 350HP/1,000 lb.ft. torque. This upgrade maintains the 5 year engine warranty. I had gotten a whole lot of misinformation from various Freightliner and Cummins shops regarding any availability of this requested upgrade. The difference in performance in hill climbing and towing is very real.

Just for the record......thru late 18’s (Renegade) the M-2 106 came equipped with the ISL-9 with 1000 lbs of torque and the TRV3200 Allison. The L-9 started showing up in 2019 with 1150 torque and the Allison TRV 3200. The M-2 112 does come with the chipped up L-9. Just wanted to clarify the Cummins designations

L9 Cummins Torque Upgrade

The upgrade was done at Altoona Freightliner in Duncansville, Pennsylvania. $200 for the Cummins ECM Flash, $210 for the dealer install, plus taxes, etc. The paperwork provided verifies that final torque rating. Note: Because the Horsepower rating was not increased, they did not need to replace the engine plate, as the plate only defines the HP rating.

Very interesting, I was told no by Cummings Northeast. Once things get back to normal I have to make a phone call, I see a road trip in my future.

Add me to those who had it done at Cummins for around $400. I had my torque increased to 1150 last year. No warranty problems.

I had mine done at Cummins Jacksonville, FL. Any Freightliner truck dealer who is Cummins certified can do it. It's all done with software.

You need to explain you are not looking for an uprating but an upgrade.

If you search here for about a 1 1/2 years back on Cummins L9 torque increase or something like that, you should be able to find the Cummins reference number and how to get them to do it.

I wasn't challenged when I explained I wanted to have a retune from RV to trash truck. This is actually what this upgrade sets the parameters to be and why it feels snappier on acceleration. Trash truck are heavy to start etc. The reprogramming also changes transmission shift parameters.

It's all good and worth the money although totally unnecessary. But who says toys are necessary

I have a question to those that have had it done. Is there a noticeable difference when pulling long grades? I am happy for the most part, but on those long grades it would be nice to have a bit more. I have a few that I pull on a semi regular basis that drag me down to 50.
