Tire Speed Ratings Verona 36VSB

On our newly purchased 2020 Verona 36VSB we have Bridgestones (295/75R/22.5)in the steerer position with a speed rating of 75MPH...is this the norm ? Just seems to low to me ?
Yep, we are new to this and worry about nearly everything...

Welcome to iRV2

75 mph ...LOW???? do you want to drive a 35,000lb + rig at over the speed limit .

My 99 Freightliner chassis has a speed rating of 65 mph ; and 99.9% of the time that's more than enough for me.

Folks it is not about the speed that I plan or do not plan to drive... but I truly appreciate the cautionary comments... it is about the margin of safety that I like to have in the components that comprise the vehicles that I drive ... should I infer that this is the speed rating on all such tures ?

Without visiting every tire manufacturers web site , JMHO : yes; most ALL tires in this size will have similar speed ratings .

Tires are tested at much greater speeds than their safety ratings and there is a safety margin built in. The same as lifting devices and jack stands. Unless they are damaged or old or inflated improperly they are not going to explode at 76mph lol.

Yep, every MH I've owned the tire's speed rating was 75. I believe that these tires are also used on trucks.

Yes it is pretty much the norm. However, Pirelli makes a tire in those dimensions with an 81mph max.

I have the exact same motorhome and tires and by no means want to Hi-Jack the thread but was about to start a new one and just didn't want to ask a question Im sure has been asked a million times. These tires say 120 PSI cold. What should we air the tires up to based on a medium load and by no means maximum..

Cold is 65 degrees. It is easy to become obsessive about this but I try to add air, if needed, when I can catch a morning with 65 degrees. Then I leave it alone if my TPMS tells me it is still OK. I run what is on the door (120s/110d) based upon the advice of a friend who has the same coach and is a very large tire dealer.

You should ALWAYS have your coach weighed and then check the manufacturers tire chart for load/pressure.

Based on my weight on a scale I have my pressure at 90lbs Rear (D) 110 front (S) and have 30K miles (including trip to Alaska) with these pressures on my 2018 36 VSB.

I use an infrared thermo gun to check tires, bearings and brakes whenever I stop for fuel or rest area and ALWAYS have cool tires. Heat is the real enemy.

The ride is GREATLY improved at these lower pressures.

I have used this method for over 30 years on 6 motor homes and approx 500k miles without a single tire problem.

BTW, I always travel with full fuel and water plus everything we need for 2-4 weeks of onboard life whenever we go out.

If you talk with tire experts (not friendly dealers), you will find this is how it is recommended for safety and handling.

Remember, the tire pressures on the door are from Freightliner and they have no idea what their chassis will be used for. I doubt anyone has their Verona loaded to GVWR.

Ziggy,
I too check my tires, brakes and bearings with an infra red thermo for my MH and toad. This coach is new to me and I came from a smaller unit with 16” tires. What do you consider normal temperature for tires that have been rolling down the highway for hours? I know this will change with ambient temperature, sunshine and so forth. I usually just look for a large discrepancy between all of them but would like to know a good baseline.

George,

I do exactly as you do. I look for major differences in tires. The sunny side will always be warmer, black top roads warmer than concrete etc.

I imagine I could call the tire rep and find the temps to watch for, but when I put my hand on the tire and don't get burned, it's OK
