Semi Conversion

We have a 2017 NRC MOD truck conversion and love every minute of driving it. It is a 600hp Cummings, 13 speed Ultra Shift transmission with a twin screw rear and 18,000 lb. front axle. It is smooth and drives like a dream, the wind has little effect on drivability! At age 72 I am most likely on my last R.V., but this is the best one we've had!

X2 for NRC MOD coaches!

'Amen" for the NRC MOD coaches! We love our NRC, and its floor plan fits us perfectly. It is rock-solid on the road, and provides comfort and safety, in motion or parked.

Our unit has been called a “Super-Duper C” RV in several posts elsewhere. There are not a lot of these type of units out there. I believe that NRC produces around 6 or 7 coaches per month, on average. Some would call it a "toterhome," but it has no rear deck for hitching a 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer. We are the second owners.

As requested, here’s a description and specs of our unit:

2008 NRC 45-Foot ”Super-Duper C” Motorhome on 2007 Freightliner Columbia Chassis

RV Section is 34’ and the BBC measurement is 10’, so roughly a total of 45’ overall.

DRIVETRAIN AND CHASSIS SPECS:

Engine-- 2006 (Pre-Emissions) Detroit 14L Series 60 Engine, 515HP & 1650 Ft/Lbs Torque

Transmisison-- ZF Meritor Freedomline 12-speed Dual-Mode Automated Manual

Rear Axles-- 40,000 Lb rated Tandem Detroit DA-RT w Airliner Air-Ride

Rear Axle Ratio-- 3.42 (yielding 1400 RPM @ 64MPH)

Wheelbase: 340”

GVWR-- 54,000 Lbs.

WABCO 4S-4M ABS Brake System

Twin 100-gallon fuel tanks

Hitch Rating-- 40,000 Lbs

MPG so far-- around 10.0 (we also run the 12KW generator off the fuel tanks, so it is approximate....)

Total Miles on Unit (so far) per Odometer-- 109,800

RV SECTION SPECS:

102" Outside Width w Total Body Skeleton of 1.5” x 1.0” welded steel tubing

One road-side "Super Slide" w recliners and Dinette

Queen bed in rear BR

Heated Ceramic Tile floor

Ceramic Tile Residential-Size Shower

Heated Water tanks (200 Gal Fresh + 100 Gal Gray and 100 Gal Black)

30-Gallon LPG, mounted inboard

All coach windows are dual-pane, w day-night shades.

I hope this helps give you more info in these great coaches. I'd post a photo, but so far I have not been successful doing that on this site........

I have the same chassis / drive train on my 07 Haulmark. Just wondering how you are getting 10mpg? Best I've ever done is 8.5 with a normal average of 8 towing our Ram truck. We just passed 52,000 miles and I'm contemplating having the head adjusted as recommended by Detroit @ 50-60k, have you had this done? I recently ran our rig over a CAT scale and it weighed 38,500 with empty tanks and not loaded for travel. Loaded we are closer to 45,000. My tires are set at 120psi on the steers and 110psi on the drives. I normally run 65mph @ 1450rpm.

Meant to mention this in my prior post.
Have you guys seen the Super C made by 1492 Coachworks? This might be the best built Super C on the market.

To bhammond1980:
Here's some more info:
We weigh about the same. We do not tow a trailer yet -- looking for one at the moment. We run 105 pounds cold in all tires. Also, we avoid the Interstates wherever smooth 4-lanes or good 2-lanes with few stops are available, as our coach can quickly and easily get to 75 mph with no trouble, if I'm not careful...... Thankful for cruise control!
The DW says I drive with a "feather-foot approach!" I do try to slow down gradually to save fuel whenever possible.
I bought "The Ugly Fix" from the folks in SC to help keep the engine clean, and to run cooler. It did seem to make a difference in fuel economy department as well. If you do an online search, you can find out more info about that product. It's very easy to install in under 20 minutes.....
The original owner "followed mfgr recommendations" (per the dealer) for all service on the Series 60 engine up to 109,000 miles (and I do have some of those receipts, but unfortunately I cannot know 100% of the details of what they did/did not do servicewise...)
I'll keep monitoring things once we get a trailer, and will try to post updates on the fuel mileage situation. That's all i can post at present.

MPG Update for 44' NRC w Detroit Series 60 515 HP

As promised, this is an update on our experienced MPG over 3 fill-ups after beginning to tow our 24' X 8.5' aluminum enclosed trailer. Travels were on flat to moderately hilly terrain, and a mixture of Interstate and four-lane US XX highways. The trailer (loaded with our small SUV) weighs around 5,900 pounds. Cruising speed was around 64 MPH.

MPG has averaged 9.0 for the 3 fill-ups measured towing the loaded trailer. We're happy with our rig and its performance.

Hope this helps!
