Opinions

I currently have a ram 4500 but I am looking to upgrade into a crew cab mdt like a freighliner m2 106 or 112 or even international or any crew cab mdt or hdt. I tow a 52 ft car trailer weighing in between 32k and 38k depending on how long I will be out for. I need some help figuring out what insurance I need if I can do it as an rv or do I have to do it as a commercial truck even though it private use. Any help is much appreciated.

I can't tell you about what truck you need but I'd check with your state as well as states you plan on traveling through regarding overall length. Here in California, 65' is maximum. Your trailer and a pick up truck place you over length here and possibly in other states.

I have the truck registered they way it is a tractor not a truck so measurement goes from axel back like a tractor trailer. I own a repair facility and all my trucks that tow are register as tractors. They have flatbeds so there is nowhere that I can place things without needing to strap down. Dot told me that is the way to get out of the over length issue.

If your moving for hire or doing any kind of business you need commercial. If just private and not for hire you can prob get standard insurance.

The truck registered as a tractor may be a hard sell to DoT. Especially if stopped questions will be long.

Im a private carrier it would be used to transport my race truck to and from the track and events. And right now Im running private on my 4500 just looking for something that rides better and more comfortable for longer drives.
