Which tow bar for Prevost?

Question: I'll be moving from a 40' Dutch Star to a 45' Prevost Marathon conversion. Wondering if there's any reason to change from the Roadmaster Sterling tow bar and Brake Buddy braking system I currently use.

What are the favorite tow bars of Prevost owners?

THANKS

Mark

p.s. my toad is very light, although that could possibly change to something that's more average weight.

There’s absolutely no reason to change your setup. The only thing to watch is hitch height and if you have to use a drop or rise draw bar, maybe cable lengths. My 14 year old Roadmaster and Brake Buddy works just fine like it did on my ‘15 DutchStar. - Ron

Mark71, congrats on the Prevost Marathon!

I agree with RVRon, your current set-up should be just fine. We originally had the Blue-Ox system and then went with the Roadmaster tow-bar and baseplate, etc. when I purchased the new Lincoln. It was time to get a new towbar anyway as we had the Blue Ox bar for 10 yrs.

I had the SMI Air Force One installed for 'air brake activation'. The first Honda CR-V (2007) that we towed I had the M & G system, the second Honda CR-V (2013) I had the SMI Air Force One since the 2013 engine compartment changed from the 2007 Honda.

Both systems are good, no complaints.

Safe travels,
Mark

Thanks everyone. We're looking forward, but I'm already dreading the anticipated learning curve of a different and more complicated coach. I guess due to smaller ownership group, there doesn't seem to be the quantity of content on the various forums. I'm scrolling through POG and Prevost Community forums.

Am I missing any?

You will find an enormous amount of info on the Prevost Community website. I started there when we decided to start a new build. We were toying with looking at Newell and it was pointed out about the differences in the structure of a Prevost.

I think you will be impressed with the Prevost service centers. They will get you in and out as quickly as possible as that is the way they are set-up. Seated Prevost buses need to get back out on the road ASAP because time is money, we get the benefit of that service.

Good luck and enjoy the new coach!
Mark

I guess PC is MY go to for info. In addition to that and POG there’s Prevost Gurus.
The best thing you can do though is make friends with tech support in Coburg. They pretty much know it all!

And in addition, call the closest factory Prevost branch and set up an account. It will become very useful.

Also, Prevost service centers can do EVERYTHING related to the chassis..... including windshields which are usually under $500 per side.

RVRon, my understanding is that Prevost centers are not geared towards the Detroit Diesel as Prevost has switched to Volvo in 2012. Have you found that to be the case?

by factory Prevost branch, do you mean official Prevost service center? For me, that would be Mira Loma

thx

Yes. The actual factory branch(s). The parts are more reasonable than you would think and the service techs know the buses inside and out. My local NJ branch DOES work on Detroit Diesel but thankfully I’ve not had to find out how extensively they will go.
My recent visit to Prevost:

We have mainly used two Prevost service centers, Goodlettsville, TN, and Mira Loma, CA. I've used Ft. Worth, TX, once and was not impressed.

TN and CA have been wonderful. Prevost will also work on the Allison transmission if 'out of warranty' (they will do oil changes). We had a warranty issue and they sent us to an Allison facility in Mira Loma just around the corner from Prevost. Once we are out of warranty with Allison (November 2019), we can have everything done at a Prevost facility.

BTW, beautiful bus Ron.
