HDT Builders

Didn't think I'd be saying this but I'm starting to see an HDT in our future. I love my F 350 DRW 6.7 but it's challenged pulling my new loaded rig at 19,100lbs. I don't see justification for a F 450. I'm in Dodge City, KS this week headed to St Louis, then up to Cheboygan MI. Wondering if anyone knows of a builder I could visit with and perhaps test drive an Volvo 670 or 770. I'm wondering what kind of fuel economy they average. DW has started making positive comments about HDT's.
I'm also going to look into re gearing to 4:10's and adding a fuel cell.

We towing 20k and agree with you. Not much comfort. The 780 is the large cab. 630 is a 61" cab. 670 is tall and only 61'". I am leaning toward the 610/630 Volvo so I can keep truck shorter(height and length) and carry a Smart. I don't plan on living in truck any.

For the sake of test driving,....you can just stop at a Volvo dealership. That's what I did when I was in the market for an HDT. They may question you about a CDL? But it'd be worth a try. I told the salesman why I was needing an HDT. He then, went and talked to his manager, and off we went.

For sure the HDT Rally is a must for anybody considering an HDT. Even if it doesn't work out for you to pull your camper there. Fly there and stay in a nearby hotel and take part.
