Put A Slide-Camper on HDT
I am interested in knowing if folks are ever putting a Slide-In type of RV camper on the back of the HDT? These normally go into the bed of my F350 and then I pull a trailer with sleds or ATV's.
A 1150 RV is 11'6" in length (more with the bed overhang) and can weight about 4500 lb's. They have slide outs and are great campers. My guess is that the HDT could not be a condo full height type due to the overhang. I want the power of the HDT and not ready to get rid of the slide-in yet. So if I purchase a HDT I of course would have to chain up from time to time because I would no longer have a 4x4.
Sample link to a slide-in:

This is from a newbee on this forum who likes the HDT's. Drives in the mountains in Colorado, owns a F-350 duly 2002. Current truck pulls the weight but not real fast and not 100% safe.

Welcome to iRV2.
Biggest problem I can think of ; would be supporting the camper while you move the HDT, under it.( front jack width)
Do you know how much wider the HDT is than your current dualy ?
Or how much higher you'll have to go?

I could use some help with the measurements of your HDT:
1. Width of bed from tire to tire
2. The height of the bed
3. The height of the cab (I need a shorter cab style)
4. Can I carry this weight on the bed and not overload the front axle?
Once I get the RV Slide In on the bed it would stay there for a few years until I make a move to a fifth wheel. This will be a challenge, thanks for helping me figure this out.

Dennis , I don't have an HDT myself, but several other people who stay in the same RV park for the winter; as I do; tow fivers with them.
I'm en-route to the park now and as soon as I arrive there I'll run around with a tape measure , for width and tire and frame height , and get some wheel base and axle ratings.
Both units in the park have sleepers , so will be a longer chassis.

Without going out back to measure I can offer the following;
1. Eight feet.
2. The top frame rails are usually 42" off the ground, add height of deck to that.
3. It varies by model but if there's a sleeper its 7+ feet high.
4. Weight will not be an issue.

The link below is of a person in Canada who has done exactly what I would like to do or some parts of the project. I am looking for more pictures and details of the do's and do not's. This is going to be fun, I am getting a welder for x-mass.

Thanks Skip and others for the support.

Can you post a link? I'm having trouble finding the pic (maybe because I'm on my phone).
