Temp Tag Question

Sometime in the future (hopefully not so distant) I am planning on purchasing a truck. My question is if there are no license plate(s) on it how would a person go about getting a temp tag to get the truck home if buying from a private party?

Visit DMV of course, You will need the signed off title, But that is all.

Laws vary from state to state, I know ONE STATE where you have 3 days to either

1: Drive it straight home by the most direct (or best) route (Shortest, best and "Most Direct" are not always the same, but BEST works) or

2: Drive it via the most direct route to DMV.

WITHOUT PLATES, but be sure to have the sales record with you (Signed off and dated Title)

A Bill of Sale should be sufficient but best bet is to check with the DMV, you may be able to get a temp license if you know the VIN #.

in my home state of Ohio you can go to the DMV with your signed out of state title and get yourself a temp plate issued to you.

Same in AZ, you need the title and a 'release of lien' if there is one on it.

MN is different, WI you can drive it home. Then take the title and bill of sale to DMV and get the new plates and title same day. If i remember correctly, MN will give you the plates/ temp title/registration and mail you the new title. When I was in St Louis park, AAA was the agent for the MN DMV.
