02 37a on w22 chassis, tires ?

Hi. We just purchased a clean 02 FW PA , 37a on W-22 chassis. The tires are 245/70r/19.5. I believe this chassis is actually a 2001. I am seeing that a lot of these PA had 22.5 tires. Is there a lot to be gained from the 22.5 tires in terms of ride, handling ? I need to buy tires, and would consider putting the larger tires / wheels on the coach if it made any sense at all. Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Howard

Welcome to iRV2.

You'd have to look at the differential gearing between your year and say 05 W-22 , B-in-L 's 05 Tiffin on a W-22 had 22.5 ' wheels.
I can't say the tire size he sold it years ago.

22.5" tires could be 4"+ taller and bog the engine down without the proper gear and you'd be living in second gear on every hill .

TYPICALLY, when a coach builder specified the 19.5" optional wheels on the new W series chassis, it was because they had not yet updated their floor plan models to accept the standard 22.5 " wheels that were first offered on a gasser when the W-series was introduced in 2001.

I think you will find the swap you are asking about to be expensive and perhaps not even possible due to clearance issues.

What Skip and Ed said! The 19.5 in tires are more than adequate for a W22 chassis. Just make sure you get tires with a high enough load rating and that you inflate them properly for the weight of your motorhome.

Thanks so much to all. Part of my query was due to the fact that I was confused as to why the W22 DID NOT have the 22.5" wheels/ tires. The coach rides just fine on the 19.5s. Other than being a little "floaty"; I find it to be a good ride. So far..........I like it. I also like the 8.1 l engine. I really appreciate the input. Howard
