05 W20 weeping at ps pump
I noticed a buildup of power steering fluid on my pump today, not enough to drip, but enough to make the pump oily and dirty. The hose at the compression fitting on both lines is a little lose. Is this a known issue? I believe it is the upper hose, which runs from the pump to the steering box. Is there a trick to repair or does anyone happen to know where to find a replacement hose.

Maybe clean everything off really good with degreaser and then take a look. Have you been adding fluid ?

You can clean it tillthecows come home... The only fix is a new pump.

The flexible rubber part on my high pressure plumbing developed a micro-leak at about 130,000 miles. Had to add fluid once every few months. Local automotive parts house replaced the rubber part and now no more leak.
Clean everything and verify origin of leak.

Thank you for getting back to me. I am not sure it is the hose, It appears these hoses are designed not to transfer vibration through the fitting; seems they wiggle a little by design... . I cleaned up the pump real well to try to get a better idea, it could be the front seal on the pump. The leak is small, I have not had to add fluid. I think at this point I need to watch it instead of throwing parts at it.

Kinda seems like the front seal is failing, is this something to replace, will it fail or just weep a little fluid like it is now?

130k miles, wow thats allot of miles for a mh. I'm at 40k. Did you pull the hose and go into a parts house? I am not sure of where the leak is coming from. 150 + s&h for a replacement hose (W0006557), I like your solution if it is the fitting.

I found a local shop in San Diego that is familiar with workhorse and will rebuild the pump for 90 bucks, same day. cant beat that. They said the gear boxes are problematic too. just under 1k for a new pump, that is just out of control.

The actual milage is 140,000 by now. All except front alignment and a front linkage replacement done with self maintenance. The latter could have been prevented if I would not have fallen for a front add-on that places a huge load on the linkage that is never felt on the steering wheel. The power steering handles it. Normally called a steering stabiliser.
I bought the printed Workhorse maintenance manual set that is over a foot tall.

I had the same thing on a low mileage 2003. The simple fix was one can of a good p/s pump sealer fluid. It worked great. $$$$ to Jim

Check the PS reservoir also. Had what looked like a bad hose on my w22 - replaced it with no improvement. Turns out the cast reservoir had a small crack, and the fluid was running down the hose and dripping from the bottom.
