1992 Bounder issues

I just got my 1st rv Its in great shape with 85000 miles on it.
it has the 454 and 4l80e combo. They sold it cause the trans stopped shifting and they were told the silenoids were stuck. Today I looked at wireing and the plug into the trans I cant get the plug to pull out and the wires look nasty and hot from the exuast pie right next to it I tokk batteries out to charge them as they r pretty much junk. I put them back in charged up and the CEL was off now. So I drove it and it shifted fine. I stopped at a stop sign and when I took off again it didn't shift and the CEL light was back on. So that doesn't sound like stuck silenoids to me. Is there a common issue that could cause this. both the batteries are junk but they show voltage when its being charged with engine running. Maybe the ignition switch, cause it sends voltage to the trans right? Maybe the harness is bad? Any help would be great.I have more questions about the rv but this is the 1st I need to address. I feel like maybe its stuck in 2nd gear when it doesn't shift, just judging by the rpms the tach I installed shows
