1997 Safari Trek dies while driving
My Trustworthy1997 safari trek has decided about every 4-5 hundred miles it will suddenly just die like someone turned the key off. About 4 times in all. usually on the freeway at about 60mph. Scary since I lose my power steering and brakes. Starts right up after each time. Has a 454 vortec engine. 60,000 miles. Fuel pump replaced about 5,000 miles ago. Fuel filter recently. Just replaced crank sensor, camshaft sensor/module and coil. Also new chassis battery. I keep forgetting (in the heat of the moment) to look down at the gauges to see if they stay active or die too.? If anyone has experienced this I would appreciate any input cause I am baffled. Thinking coil wire and distributor next. This does not appear to be caused by bumps in the road etc. Completely sporadic. Thanks.

Is it possible it's something as simple as the ignition switch?
Try wiggling it while it's running, parked of course.
Also, you can try wiggling all the wires you can reach under the dash, and around the motor.
Likely you would have seen the CEL flash if it was an engine fault.
Hope that helps.
Happy Glamping.

OP said:
"Fuel pump replaced about 5,000 miles ago."
Was that replaced for this current problem?

No. At that time the vehicle would not start. No pressure so I dropped the tank and replaced the pump. Ran fine until recently. Pressure is still good.

I would also look at the ignition switch this is a known issue with these P series coaches, Workhorse even came up with a retrofit ignition switch relay kit for the 8.1L coaches.
