2005 Workhorse W22 Chassis Issue (Broken Serpentine)

Well it was bound to happen I knew this baby was getting old. Was driving down the highway and serpentine belt broke. I did not realize it until I lost power steering. I limped off on to the next exit, by the time I was to a stop I had antifreeze going everywhere.

We replaced the serpentine belt and I was up and running in less that 2 hours, but now even after adding more antifreeze, I keep running hot. I have to keep running the heat to pull the temp back down to a safe zone. What is going on?

You may ned to bleed the system to get the air out of the cooling system

Did you get the correct belt, is it on right? Make sure the fan is turning the right way.

When it gets hot, does the fan roar. Maybe the fan clutch failed, from the overheat.

The thermostat may have cooked also.

Worst case , is cracked heads or head gasket.

Good luck

Check the fan shroud for damage: top, bottom, and, sides. Make sure there are no large gaps between the radiator tanks and the fan shroud edges. Very critical to proper cooling system operation!!!

One of the things you may have forgotten.

That is not regular Antifreeze in that system.. they used a long-lasting coolant. It may be you addeded the wrong "Flavor" and they may not be compatibility.

You will need to flush and refill with the proper coolant.
