2006 W22 Cruise Control
I have a 2006 Workhorse chassis Allegro Bay MR. My cruise control does not work. I have read other post and have tried all that has been suggested. Check fuses, replace break light switch, confirm break paddle is return back to the top correct, confirmed break light switch is adjusted correctly and check break lights and no bulbs are. I am at a loss! Any additional ideas or information would be greatly appreciated. I sure hate the idea of having to visit a Workhorse service center.

How did you check the brake pedal travel was in the fully up position and the brake switch was adjusted properly?
1. The brake switch assembly has at least 2 different switches internally, one for the brake lights and the other for the cruise. Mechanically, they do not operate exactly together - the brake switch could be untriggered yet the cruise switch still be triggered.
2. The above happens in our ‘02 WorkHorse - when the cruise doesn’t work, I put my left toes under the pedal and lift - the pedal comes up about 1/16” and the cruise again becomes operable.
3. I had found on a previous coach that sliding the control lever back and forth several times while bearing down on the slide seemed to help in cleaning the internal contacts of the cruise turn signal lever switch, making the cruise operable again.
Per the Service Manual, the cruise control interfaces thru the ECM and works in tandem with the Electronic Throttle Control and Throttle Position Sensor module.
You might download all the Service Manual's for you chassis - workhorse.navistar.com/Default.aspx?tabid=574

I’d love to have a service manual for my ‘04 W22!

Looking at the schematic there's not a whole lot there, basically switched ignition, brake switch and the steering column control. There's a "pull down" resistor to ground, not sure what that's for. So it would appear that you'd check these specific functions directly with a meter, vs just replacing the parts. If that doesn't reveal the issue the ECM could be toast (though I would think it would have failures other than cruise if that were the case).
My cruise does work, I tried it a few times but it's mostly wishful thinking. There are few roads you can use it on where it doesn't thrash the tranny downshifting on the slightest grade.

That happened to my 2010 Adventurer. It was actually a wheel speed sensor that was bad. In fact it was the wheel sensor bracket that failed. On my coach the cruise is tied to the wheel sensor...the clue was I also had an engine light for ABS.
Hope that helps.
