454 exhaust manifold studs
Does anyone know the GM p/n for the exhaust manifold studs? These are the ones that bolt on the manifold to the head (not the 3 for the y-pipe). The ones I found looking online don't look like what I need. The ones on my 96 P30 454 are about 2-1/2 - 3 inches long and have a small hex on the tip to screw it in. The GM p/n 14103124 I found listed for my year is shorter and has the threads stepped. 3/8-16 on one end and 5-16-18 on the other. (At least by a picture on eBay).
I know someone will say just go to Chevy and ask. But usually the dealers won't give you the p/n because they know you can get them cheaper online.

If I ever have manifold bolt/stud problems they will be replaced by ARP parts. ARP | The Official Web Site. They make fasteners of all kinds for the racing industry and are top notch. They can be purchased thru Jeg's and Summit speed shops as well.
Good luck,
Dave

My local chevy dealer doesn't even have a listing for the studs anymore. They did 2 yrs ago because I asked about them back then. The ones I found online are not the correct one. The listing even states that the stud is 3/8-16 on one end and 5/16-18 on the other. Mine are 3/8-16 both ends and about 2 1/2" total length with an almost star hex on one end to be able to screw them into the heads.
I wanted to re-install the stock exhaust manifolds just to get it running again after I re-install the heads. I have new headers to install so I guess I'll go ahead and install them and just hook up some cheap mufflers to get it running and then take it in to get the exhaust re-hooked back up. Also replacing the stock muffler with a SS Magnaflow muffler.

I second the suggestion to ARP fasteners.

Those ARP studs from Summit won't work as there is too much un-threaded space in the middle and those from Dorman are the 3 for the manifold to y-pipe and won't work for bolting the manifold to the head. The factory studs have 1/2" of 3/8-16 then about 1/2" un-threaded and then about 1 1/4" 3/8-16. The last 1/4" of the 2 1/2" length is the star-hex for installing and removing the stud.
I'll keep looking as I know there's probably some out there if I can just find the right p/n to go by. There's millions of big block chevy's out there that use these exhaust studs so I know that I'll find some.
Thanks for all your help.

I see the 14103124 in the GM parts catalog too: 3/8-16 5/16-18 x 2 17/64
I also see a 12554867 3/8-16x1.05", but that doesn't sound like what you're after either.
Any chance your studs have already been replaced with a non-stock piece already? I'll check some different years and see what I can find...

The part # are 14103124 for the manifold bolts. These are the ones for the heat shields with the 5-16 ends. You only need 4 for each side. The other ones are regular style. Gm still has them aprox 6 bucks each. They come in a package of 5. Most dealers will break up a package. The studs for the manifold to the exhaust pipe are 88891746. They aint cheap, aprox 12 bucks each. Buy one them match up with aftermarket. I have been down this road with a 1993 Gulfstream Sunsport and 1991 ss454 pickup. I was able to match up the bolts and studs with an aftermarket supplier for a lot less. I hope this helps.

Sorry but as I said in my 1st post, those studs #14103124 are not the correct ones that I have on my 96 454 w/ TBI. Here is a picture of a stud that I removed from my heads and a picture out of the Banks exhaust install instructions showing the same studs. The picture in my GM P32/P42 factory manual also shows the correct studs. I don't know where GM comes up with saying that p/n14103124 is the correct one. The bolt hole in my spark plug heat shields is for a 3/8" stud not a 5/16" stud. I think I found a Dorman stud that might work #675-115. I'll probably order some of these to see.

Part #14103124 is the correct # I still have a GM part bag of them left over when I used them on a 91 and a 93 big block, maybe a 96 is different? The heat shield has a 3/8 hole for wiggle room. The stud style, without the hex, is for the manifold to exhaust pipe. The picture you show is for headers not cast manifold. I would not use a stud, they are made to bottom out, and the 1/4 hex doesnt last very long. Also when they break off they are harder to get out.

My studs are factory and they don't bottom out, the end that goes into the head is 3/8"-16 thread and only about 1/2" long and then it has the shoulder and then about 1 1/4" of 3/8-16 thread . These are not the same as the exhaust manifold to y-pipe w/ donut gasket even though they look similar. The ones shown with the headers are the same as mine. I was only showing another place that confirms what I have. The banks headers install pic, if you would read the caption, says to install the "factory" studs as that is what Banks Exhaust uses and not just header bolts. GM had the ones that I am looking for as some were replaced 5 yrs ago so GM had them then but discontinued them now. I'm just looking for the original part number as I know that there are some out there somewhere.
