5 to 6 Speed Allison Conversion
Hey guys I need some input!
We are currently in the process of developing a conversion of the Allison 5 speed transmission to 6 speed just like the newer 06+ W-series. Because of the huge costs involved in doing something like this and before we ramp up production and get this thing going I need to know how much interest there is in a product like this. Based off of our projections the cost of such an upgrade will be in the $2000 range and include our GradeBrake if not already equipped. Any input would be greatly appreciated, and please keep the pricing bashing to a minimum, as the price reflects numerous components that must be changed. Just a simple yes or no and thoughts would be appreciated!

Yes, if only you were on the east coast. Wouldn't trust anyone else for that project.

It does sound interesting. Would we need to re gear the rear?

No regear necessary if we tune the Allison TCM correctly, we need to put more time on our beta test coach but it's looking good so far!

What model transmission would this include? Also can you explain more about the grade brake!
Thanks

Jon, good offer. My question is would any later repair repair be able to be done at an Allison servicecenter or would it have to come back to you?

It will be able to be serviced and diagnosed at any Allison repair facility as we are using all Allison parts.

I would really be interested also. Would this conversion close the gear ratio gap between 2nd and 3rd gear?

I would not buy that upgrade.
Mine works fine as is and I travel all around the U.S. and live in California. I'm at 56,000 miles and the transmission works great.
The grade brake feature on mine is called pull the transmission lever down a notch. Seems to work fine that way.
I think you are smart doing some market research on here and you may want to post on RV.net also.

Jon; What is the RPM difference of 6th gear compared to 5th gear? I have read on one post that on a w-24 chassis the difference was only about 50 rpm. That is not much if so. Is your reprogram a different gear ratio? I would think a ratio that would give a greater drop in rpm would provide a better improvement on mpg. Thanks JP

What would you consider the advantage of the 6th gear conversion? Lower rpms at cruise? slightly better mileage?
