I looked but couldn't find anything, are you wondering about swapping a 8.1L for a 6.6L duramax?
The 8.1L is the same size as any old Big Block chevy. I can't find really info on either one as to exterior size.
I know the 6.6L is going to weigh more and that is why of the two it was the one that was Only ever offered in 3/4 ton and larger trucks.

If your wondering about a swap, what chassis do you have now?

Thanks for your response. im planning on doing an Allison swap on our 1947 Flxible Clipper 29 passenger bus. I don't need to do an engine swap at this time but we may upgrade to an 8.1 or a 6.6 at some point. not sure if either engine will fit. knowing they are a popular workhorse engine thought somebody here may know. maybe somebody knows how far the pulleys hang off the front of the motor? can use a 2100MH if we keep our engine. would need a 2300MH if we upgrade in the future. if either engine will fit I will get a 2300 now so I don't have to buy a trans twice. thanks.

Cool bus

Remember some of these allision transmissions require Electronics to operate.
Just what is a 2100MH,or 2300MH ? do you have a Detroit Diesel now?

i just did this in my RV videos and all if you would like to see

the allison 1000 and 2100 are the same tans but with out park pal
some of the 2100 have a def VB wiring plug but this can be swop over

i have all wiring dy for the allison and 8.1l

i can tell you all ready the newer allison 6 speeds well not work for your GVWR
if you did swop a 6 speed OS in to your 4th gen TCM 5 and 6 speed would be lost as there is just not the HP to hold it on that gear at any speed .. thats why you never find the 6 speed OS in any thing other then a LT truck

too the allison has a max RPM and the 8.1l and TCM talk to make sure this MAX rmp stays where it needs to be 4000 or so

so if you want to swop in like i did go with a 2004.5 8.1l and allison

the 2004.5 is when the last update where made in the allison and 8.1l fuel system

i made the full wiring from the ground up so i could help and show you how

http://www.irv2.com/forums/f258/rv-f...ve-198780.html

all so some where i have all the external dimensions on paper but its only like 4 inc longer then a GM3500/th400 some thing like that

i can all so give you any pin plug and part number you need
