99 - 03 short class A's with W20?

We are looking to buy a short (under 30') class A in this year range. If I have my info right, the W chassis did not start until 2002.

We have our eyes on an '02 Fleetwood Fiesta but unclear yet whether it's on a P or W chassis & I was just wondering if there is a place to learn which small class A's came with the W20 chassis?

99 - 03 short class A's with W20?

The W Series was introduced in 2001 CHASSIS model year. The W 20 and the W22 will both have a 6 in the sixth position of the chassis vin #. A P32 will have either a 3 OR a 5 in that position.
If looking in person, the W series has a solid front axle and leaf springs. The P 32 has coil springs with airbags inside the coils.

The Safari Trek was offered on the W series chassis, but not until 2003, and then only on the 29ft + models, and in 2004 on the 28 ft as an optional upgrade over the P series chassis, and 2005 on the 26 ft model..

Thanks. The dealer said the W was only used on larger rigs so it's a P but I haven't verified with a Vin.

Depending on GVWR, it MAY have the infamous J71 AAPB system. I suggest you avoid chassis with that, if possible.

Thanks all. azal, what year is your Fiesta?

We are also looking at the Georgie Boy 2450. Nice & short but more space with 2 slides. Hard to come by though.

From my research it appears that the P32 chassis that these small rigs use is the 15,000 GVWR version which doesn't have the J71 AAPB so that's good.

And it looks like the Fleetwood 26Y's all used the P32 chassis at least through 2004.

I see references to the W20 in the Georgie Boy 2420 but I'm not clear what years they may have come with that. I know, like the 26Y's, I've seen them with the P32.

Are there any other 2001 - 2003 models that compare to these two? Looking for something short with a rear bedroom and a setee.

That's another thing, the GB 2450 only seems to have a couch in the slide-out. Haven't seen any with a setee there.

Our fiesta is 2002 with the 8.1 vortex. When we were looking we found two but we can't remember the names, one had 96k miles and the other was a filthy mess. I found a Trex in one of the northern states but it was the wrong time of the year to be going there.
We removed the bench seat between the table and drivers seat and got two folding chairs works much better gives a little more room.

Do you have some specific reason to prefer the W20 chassis over the P32 on such a short coach?

I was going to ask the same question but more on length. Plenty of 32 footers out there, which are pretty short. Unless the OP has a logical reason for staying under 30 feet.

I should be saying dinette instead of setee I think.

Yeah we want something pretty short because we want it to be easier in the city and parking, etc. There are only two of us (+ 1 kid sometimes) so don't need something big. We're not going to be full timing or anything.

The reason I wanted the W over the P was because of the J71 AAPB (which I now realize is not an issue for this GWVR) and the Allison trans. 5 spd instead of the 4 spd GM trans for the years I'm looking at but it's not a big deal.

I also just realized that Fleetwood had the Flair 25Y/25F before they started with the Terra/Fiesta 26Y, & the 25F had a bedroom slide.

This has sparked a discussion with my wife & I. Maybe we're overthinking the difference between a 27' & 30/31' rig, as far as parking/campgrounds & such. There are certainly a lot more to choose from in that size.

We would welcome any input on that!
