AC issues, 2002 Damon Intruder

Hello all, semi new to this forum as I've been here many times but have recently joined.

We bought a 2002 Damon Intruder 350 on the Workhorse Chassis and have had it for about 2 weeks. At the start, the AC would not blow out through the dash vents, the sales guy fixed that him self, said the vacuum line was not on.

Well, we don't think the AC is working (dash AC). It seems to blow cool air, but if you mess with the temp it goes warm to hot, stays like that in all modes.

In the photos I want to make sure I'm identifying these correct. One shows the AC unit? The other, with the 2 fans, is that also part of the AC or is it the transmission cooler? The fans did not run while the AC was on, had son working controls while I looked.

I think you might have a couple of things going on at the same time which makes troubleshooting difficult.

The outside air intake pulls from the engine compartment which is all hot air. This is the actuator which has the blue vacuum hose attached in your picture. So the air will likely be warm at idle after the engine has been running a while.

Also, fans running or not, it should blow cold air as you are driving down the road. My guess is you are low on freon and the compressor is not engaging. This happened to us when we had a leak in the compressor last year.

Good luck with hunting this down.

Fans should run when the air is on. They blow air over the condenser to change the Freon from hot to cold. Also you should check the heater valve to see if the hoses are hot going to the heater air box when the controls are on full cold.

I just replaced my driver side electric fan. When I started up the coach and turned the a/c on (in recirc) the fans did not immediately come on. Once the engine warmed up, then they both came on.

Check to make sure your fans are free to rotate.

Something else you should check is if the upgrade fix for the ignition switch has been done. Nothing to do with the AC but could save you down the road, Here is a link on the fix,

A/C update:

I took the "hatch" cover off from inside over the engine. Started it up, and found the compressor on driver side. It does cycle on/off with AC on. PLayed with the hot/cold, Vent, Heater.. they seem to work as normal. The AC could feel colder to me however.

One line on the compressor was pretty cold. Not icing but cold/wet. Other line was warm to hot.

Fans (2 of them) were NOT on, nor did they turn on during my inspection.

On the TOP photo I posted, where the blue vacuum hose you see crosses the silver pipe, that was cold as well. Is that the charging port? I screwed it off and it looks like one. Maybe I just need to charge the AC more?

I found a product, called AC Pro. Come with a gauge as well. My owners manual has the AC charge numbers I can use.

Check you manual, I think the fans are controlled by a pressure switch which should be located on the line under the hood. I agree with others, probably low on Freon.

I have used the AC pro Freon filler. Easy to use. Also the two fans must run when the AC is on in order to blow air thru the condenser. check to make sure they are operating.
