Actia odometer unreadable

I have a 2005 Presidio MH, Workhorse chassis. The LED odometer has become increasingly unreadable because the LED lights are going out. I have tried to replace it by the local Cummins shop, which does all my service work. First they were told by Workhorse that only the entire instrument cluster could be replaced. When the shop went to Actia to obtain the cluster, they were told that the instrument cluster was "obsolete" and no longer in stock. Back to Workhorse, which now said they did not have the cluster in stock. We cannot find the cluster. I have searched the internet and cannot find the cluster. The current cluster seems to be part no. 101868. Where can I get this cluster?

First let me welcome you to the best forum for info on your workhorse chassis.

FWIW, we don't see too many Workhorse RDP chassis owners here, but I hope you can still find the help you seek. Look at the top of the forum (not thread) page and you'll find a "search this forum" button. Enter "actia cluster" and you should get lots of threads to read thru. Many of us have had our clusters replaced after returning them to Actia. Look for info from 007, I think his posts offer details.

Please come back and let us know more about your results.

Again, WELCOME!

Check these guys out, they will repair your Actia display for $139.00. I have read they have repaired a few who posted on this site with good responses.

I used them once and all was fine. It lasted about a year and then the digital readouts quit. Called them and they said to send it back. Cost me $11 to ship it back and after a week they called me to say the panel was beyond repair. Everything worked but the digital part so I am at a loss as to why it cannot be repaired. In any case they are going to refund my original $139 and send it back to me. I am satisfied with this company but I would think the dif=gital portion would have been quick and easy.

The replacement parts needed may be discontinued or not available. I would try a RV junkyard for used actia display

New cost of cluster is $454. Junk yard is usually somewhere around 50%. With these Actia clusters having so many problems anyway I would be leary of buying a used one. I am looking to see if a Chevy instrument panel repair shop can look at it. I am waiting for a reply now.

Did Actia say the clusters are no longer in stock or that they will repair yours with a new LED display for $454 price?
The new LED displays are orange the old were gray would think if Actia can fine them than why not the $139 shop.

I had two of the gray clusters fail.

The latest amber one is a little more readable but sounds an alarm every so often and resets itself.

I've learned to live with it. Come to think of it we were just on a four week trip and it never reset itself......Hmmmm now I'm worried.

It's very possible that the problem is the LCD display itself but the integrated circuit driver circuits that activate it.
The integrated circuits are probably labeled with the Actia part number and a repair service may not be able to get new ones since they don't know the generic part numbers.
If Actia has declared it obsolete they aren't building them and may not be stocking the old ICs any more so can't repair them - or don't want to.

If they (Actia) were smart they would contact the guys repairing them and give them the generic part numbers or whom they should contact to get the parts if the parts are proprietary (parts they designed and had manufactured).

Actia did not offer me a price to repair it. Stupid me never even thought to ask them that question. When I called them I got a recording that said the new price of the cluster is $454. I guess I will call and see what they charge, and ask them if they have priority parts in the cluster.
