Brake Noise

When making a quick hard stop, my front brakes are making a grating like noise. No, not a metal to metal noise or sometimes like a dust noise, but a low pitch grinding or grating noise.

During a easy normal stop I do not hear any noise, only during a hard quick stop.

Thanks,

Ron

Ron, I would get a flashlight and check the surface of the rotors for any anomalies. They should be shiny and free from major cracks and defects. If you can raise the MH a bit so you can spin the tire that might make it easier to see the big picture. Look from underneath and the inside surface of the rotor as well. Be safe use a jack stand.

Grab the tire at 12 and 6 and see if there's any play in the tire. You could use a tire iron and a hand at the 12 o'clock position and see if there's any movement there.

Take a look to make sure the bearing cups are filled per spec as an after thought.

This is a weird one! Worst case is you pull the wheels. caliper pins and visually check the face of the pads as well.
