I am wondering why a 2004 model has a bad compressor bearing anyway? Maybe its because of the lighter weight of the compressor as described by mrswarz in above post. I am concerned because I too have a 2004 year model coach. I also have an old Mercedes with one of those compressors "from the old days" its a GM model, circa 1976, and has near 300,000 miles of trouble free service. Still cools well and no bearing problems. So much for progress and light weight.

Somehow the newer seals get wrecked when trying to do this. So now its a dixiecup.

Well, the compressor is very small and light. It is residing in a box under my table, and I hardly notice it. Considering the cost of the new one, it's almost worth it's weight in gold ! I hope I can find a machine shop that will put a new bearing in it, so I can have a working spare.

My understanding from reading this forum is that Workhorse's compressor supplier got a bad batch of bearings in the 2003 timeframe.

My compressor bearing is also going out on my 2004 Newmar Scottsdale at 40m miles. It would be nice if Workhorse\GM could possibly identify if they received a bad batch of bearings and help their customers out with some kind of a discount.

Wow ! That bad batch theory is really interesting. I'd like to pursue it, since the engine portion was produced in 2003 on my unit. Any ideas how to do that?

I just got a quote from my local Workhorse repair facility for a new compressor. He said it would be $360.00 plus at least 2 hours labor. I just hope it all holds together for the 40 mile drive to get it to the shop. It seems to be ok as long as I have the air on.

The AC compressor on my 2004 W20 (build date April 2004) started making strange noises about a year ago, and it was replaced under warranty. Workhorse should have data on everything done under warranty, but I have no idea how to get them to do something with it.

Mine failed in May after talking it out of storage. Workhorse replaced it at no cost. I have 21k Miles.

Just an update on the cost of replacing the chassis air on my 2004 W22. The price of the compressor was $388.00 and with 2 hours of labor the total was $600.66 tax included. I had it done at my closest Workhorse shop, ABC Bus in Faribault MN.
