I am having a problem finding the cause of a drive line squeak on our 2002 W22 LaPalma 36.5' M.H. It is loud enough to be heard by passing motorists, this was how I was first made aware of the noise. It has the same speed as the drive shaft and reminded me of the noise that a bad u-joint would make. I got under the rig and found all the u-joints to be in good shape however the rear segment of the drive shaft was out of phase, most likely from a previous tow. I lubed all the u-joints and put the rear segment back in phase and still have the noise. Has anyone had any problems with carrier bearings on their rigs?

Could be the center support bearing.

Don't know if you have aluminum wheels or wheel covers, I have had wheel caps imitate a drive line squeak.

Could you explain the term '...the rear segment of the drive shaft was out of phase..."

Richard, the trunion bearings of the universal joint cross should be in a straight line alignment with each other on each separate section of the drive shaft. If they aren't, they are out of phase with one another. Alignment can be obtained by re-positioning the drive shaft radialy via the splines in the slip joint of the driveshaft. If the driveshaft is out of phase, it will often cause severe vibration, and pre-mature U joing wear.

Check for impingement of the dust shield or if you prefer the flinger ring on the differential input shaft. You said work was done in this area. It could be something within your AAPB drum. I hope not!! Good luck!!

jsteiner - Did you even find the cause of your driveline noise? I am having the same problem. I took the wheel covers off and lubed the u-joints but the noise is still there. I suspect it has something to do with the parking brake drum and shoe mechanism. I'm taking my coach to Redlands Truck tomorrow to have it taken care off. Any information would be appreciated
