Hello All
I want to know if I can use the E-85 Gas that is sold here in Wisconsin, I have a Bounder 35R with the 8.1L in it, if not why, my book dont say i cant, but it also dont say i can, i have a friend that has a GM dualy pickup that he pulls his 5ver with the 8.1L and he uses it all the time, for some that dont know the E-85 is a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% unleaded gas, the octane is at 90%, i use right now the 10/90% blend at 90% octane, i would like to use the 85/15 blend,, major reason is $$$ Gas is at $2.25 a gal and the E-85 is at $1.75, it has been nice useing it in my ford explorer, now i want to use it in my M/H

You say E-85 runs at 90% octane the engine needs 87 octane if you pull a grade an have no pinging I would say should be alright. If not mix E-85 with a higher octane. --"007"

While octane is important, of equal importance is whether the rubber fuel lines and other fuel system components will hold up to ethanol. Ethanol will quickly rot rubber that isn't alcohol resistant, so I'd call Workhorse before using it.
If you talk to them let us know what they say.
BTW- Keep in mind that the generator and its fuel lines also need to be ethanol approved as they run off the same gas as the MH engine.

I called WCC tech Support on this very same issue while I was traveling through Wyoming. The company policy is that the engine runs on 87 octane gasoline however at the time I was presented with 85.5, 88 and 91 octane. I chose the more expensive 88 however it was not labeled ethanol.
You can always run more octane but never less than 87. Regarding the ethanol question, I had a conversation with a motorhome owner who claims that ethanol content fuels severely damaged his fuel system on his Onan generator.
Call Onan and verify if this could be true.
