Hi...
My otherwise fine 2004 Airstream Land Yacht was towed in 3 times by now (4000 miles) because the parking brake will not release.
Also a few times in between the brake would not release, but a while later it did.
The dealer has been real eager to help, but I am not sure that the have gotten to the REAL issue. This week they replaced another relay. Also at times the ABS pump keeps running after the engine is shut off. The "fix" for this was an adjustment to the stop light witch.
Anyone with similar experiances or a fix???
Thanks

The switch is one of the easiest things to adjust and just as easily set out of adjustment if the switch gets jarred by external influences.
The switch also allows works with the cruise control as well. Your authorized service center will be the best resource for you to get these issues resolved.

Thanks for the response.
The switch was adjusted a few weeks ago, but the problem happend again shortly after. Had several relays replaced. Since the problem is intermittend it appears to me that the diagnosis is more "shotgunning" than concrete diagnosis.
I was hoping that someone else has a similar issue in the past.
Any help is appreciated.

Wolfgang, Checking for info on autopark and I came across your post in 2004. I have a 2004 Airstream Landyacht on the 2003 Chassis 26,000 and am on my third auto park failure. First, locked up in street had it towed, relay on pump replaced. Second, Failure in NC mountains, disabled autopark, broke down for five days, new style pump replaced. Third, past weekend relay went, again, got one from NAPA, fixed the problem. I'm interested, if you still have the Landyacht and are frustrated like me. Hope we can talk. George

I took the easy way out...sold it, and lost a lot of
$$$ in the process.
This had to be the worst made and supported vehicle I
have ever bought. I made it all the way to the CEO of
Airstream, Larry Huttle. He is a piece of work... I
actually met him at a trade show. I am a former car
maker exec. After that I figured he would be of help.
This unit had so many flagrant issues, and his
standard response was "that is normal".
They were never able to fix it, in spite of the local
(Houston) Workhorse dealer (Landmark) really trying. I
finally learned to disassemble the brake myself and
traded it in like that.
Bought a Winnebago Diesel that has had only very minor
issues. The unit is now in a rental fleet while we
live in the caribbean and has had no problems.
In my view Airstream is a great brand name, what they
are doing to it is a shame.
OK, now I feel better.
I wish you good luck, I remember what it is like to
have a Motorhome locked solid in the middle of the
road.

I hope you didn't trade it off with the brake disassembled. Some unsuspecting buyer could have a serious problem or accident if they are expecting the brake to hold and it is not functional.

Wolfs, Is it possible for you or anyone else, to give a brief explanation on how to disable the park brake in an emergency situation when it locks up. It sure would be nice to know as I sure don't want to sit in the middle of the road for 5 hrs.
Thanks Pat

Pat,
On the mechanical/hydraulic park brake assembly, you disconnect the clevis pin from the park brake bellcrank down near the transmission. There are two pins one from the park brake pedal & one from the automatic actuator.Remove the pin from the actuator in an emergency situation.Always block the wheels before doing ANY of this.

Mike, I have the automatic electric park brake on a W24. Is this the same as your referring to when you say to remove "one" pin from the actuator?
Thanks,
Pat

On the one you have auto/hydraulic the pressure from the park brake pump releases the pressure on the shoes.Unfortunately there is no way to override this style of park brake, that we know of.
