Actia instrument cluster allways displays "D"
no matter what is selected. In motion or stopped. Anyone know where the instrument cluster gets gear position selected signal from?
Allisson shop says that the TCM does not send that info. out.

The ECM and TCM work in partnership to establish what gear you're in and which gear to display in the command center.
My TCM was fried by lightning. The command center was only able to display a D. My transmission was only able to shift up manually and did not have any kick down capability once I was in high gear. If I needed a lower gear I had to grab it with the OD lockout or the gear shift lever.
Once my TCM was replaced and tested by a laptop with the appropriate Allison diagnostic software, my quadrant selections resumed being displayed normally and my kick down function returned to normal operation.
The difficulty in swapping out the TCM is that the serial number on the case and model year must match the original TCM. The software in the TCM is specific and must accommodate the calibration file installed in the ECM.

DriVer I finally convinced an Allison shop to check it out, and it turned out that the TCM did fail. Both issues are now resolved. They (Allison Shop) insisted that there was no input to the Inst. cluster from the transmission; then after further diagnostic checks a cause code appeared. Indicating a fault requiring the TCM to be replaced, which resulted in the downshfting and the instrument cluster gear indicator issues to be solved. Thanks again for your input.

You're welcome; glad to be of help. It's kinda a hard to defeat the, "been there and done that!"
I'm on my second Workhorse and there aren't many things that I haven't seen.

Was lightning damage covered under your rig insurance? I would appreciate any details, since my rig was struck July of this year (2009), but insurance company won't cover it.

My insurance company covered all my damages caused by the lightning. (less my deductible) I was at the Winnebago GNR when it happened so I was able to get a damage report immediately and Winnebago Industries Service Department and took care of a lot of the insurance paperwork. They assigned me a rep that works directly with the insurance company. The insurance company paid WGO directly so I didn't even have to go out of pocket. I have a policy from Poliseek.
