GMC Vortec Engine Advice

We recently purchased a 2003 National Sea Breeze with 46k miles that the owner said had been in storage for 7 years. The owner had replaced the roof, tires and batteries but the engine did not run. We purchased it "as is" and after we towed it home and pulled the head gasket off we discovered metal shavings in the cylinders. We are looking for a company to replace the engine, but have discovered that few companies want to work on class A homes and fewer (none?) want to take on a job of this magnitude. What advice can you give so I can move forward? Grateful for all suggestions!

You might try Kevin Caudill you can find him on here, not sure of his handle but could just be his name. He has a lot of good videos on YouTube you can follow. He’s your best source to get started, you might try PM him for his contact info.

What in the world would make you go to head gaskets because it did not run?

Angry 10 year old Rv

Many RV campgrounds are not accepting RV's ten years old or older.

You might want to consider cutting your loses .. it's most likely going to run past 20 grand to make repairs and you can count on repeated repairs.. so is the rv worth that.? Or.. roll up your sleeves and do it right.. and get some books and save more than 15k.. what do you want to do?
Good luck and keep us posted

So!

What does that have to do with getting the engine started in his motorhome!

I misspoke in my post. The engine did start but after it warmed up white smoke would start coming out and fluid would drip out of the tailpipe. A mechanic tested the compression, etc. and told us the head gasket was blown.

Duh: the person might be thinking of going camping. Why spend big bucks if you can't use the RV for camping.

BLM, NFS, National Park Service, state parks, county parks. All kinds of ways to go camping where that isnt a issue.

I've always wondered how a Workhorse engine swap would work. Pick the whole rig up 8 feet and drop it out the bottom? Come up thru the living area and sling it out the window? Rip the whole front cab off and rebuild later? (Mod Edit) I can't wrap my head around it honestly.
