Heat shield for knock sensor 2 on 8.1 Chevy with workhorse chassis
I am having a problem with knock sensor 2 on 8.1 Chevy with workhorse chassis. It seems that there is a heat shield missing on knock sensor 2. My repair shop has changed the knock sensor two times and tried insulate it but it gets to hot and destroys the knock sensor. They can't find the heat shield part anywhere. Any suggestions on where to that part or other ideas to fix it? Thank you, Ray

Are you getting a Check Engine Light (CEL) and, if so, what is it?

Heat shield for Knock sensor 2 on a 8.1 Chevy with workhorse chassis
Yes, I get the engine light on and odb reading confirms it us the knock sensor 2. The rig looses power and can only go about 10 miles an hour. If you stop and let it cool then it will work again until overheat happens. The overheating it damaging the damaging the knock sensor. Never had this issue before and I don't know if there is a heat shield for it but something has changed.

I would suggest the shop hand bend up a heat shield, that can be bolted or clamped into place. We clamped a heat shield to our Banks header to protect the starter. Perhaps the shop can make something simple for you, using one of two of these to bolt that hand made heat shield.

I had a similar issue on mine, it turns out that the exhaust donut was leaking causing hot exhaust to be blown on the O2 sensor.

Check down there with the engine running to make sure you are not blasting it with hot exhaust. My donut had a little piece missing and the knock sensor was getting blasted.
Good luck,
Bill
