Hp tuners professional tune?

I have old friend (hotrodder, tuner, ex nhra crew chief, wally holder) who connected his laptop to my 98 7.4l, . He then datalogged it, and downloaded the program from the ecu.
Said there was fuel mileage and power to be gained with some tuning.
Anyone here ever done something like this to your coach? Was it worth it? Regrets?
He works wonders on our little turbo cars, but i am not sure this vehicle's use warrants it.
I am thinking a mh might see a greater range of different operating conditions. i do know the chevy program is conservative, but very safe in most all operating conditions
Thanks

There may be something to gain. What do the BLM tables say?
One of the problems with a genaric tune from GM is that they do not know how much weight the engine will be pushing. The general rule for heavy trucks is that they disable the fuel enrichment, because they are afraid that with so much weight, you could run in fuel enrichment mode all the time. If you know where it runs at cruise, you can set the fuel enrichment to turn on, only when you step on the throttle more than your typical cruising position. The other thing that happens is because it is running lean when step on the throttle, they take out a lot of timing to prevent knock. If you can run richer, you can add more timing, which helps throttle response immensely. A custom tune may not help a lot at wide open throttle, but it will likely improve throttle response.

Yes, I have been tuning 16 years and tuned many RV's with GM engines, they usually gain 1-2mpg just from tuning. Every RV I have ever tuned had a horrible tune in stock, way worse than the same engine in a truck.
