Limp Mode/MIL
The MIL and Check Engine lights came on plus the MH goes into Limp Mode (reduced power). This has happened several times. Each time I have been able to get off the road safely. After several restarts the problem goes away. I know it is supposed to be related to emisions but Limp Mode is not too safe. The nearest Workhorse service is 100 miles away and I don't know if a code remains stored to help find the problem. Any ideas??? Should I invest in a OBD unit? Would it point to the problem?

You are under warranty and you should go directly to the service center. You will not learn much using a hand help or other type of scanner. The Tech II on the other hand can scan the entire electrical system and could isolate the problem right away.
Now that said, ANY GMC or Chevrolet dealer will have a Tech II and they might be able to scan your ECM for obvious DTCs.
A hundred miles is not extremely far as our first center was 150 miles away. The gods were smiling on me when we moved and our center is now only 18 miles.

Thanks for the quick reply on this problem and other help you have given me in the past. Am I right that after several restarts the problem clears up for a period of time?

Richard, Yes after several restarts the DTCs will actually disappear if they don't present again.
One innocuous thing that you might try is to disconnect the ground on your automotive battery and let it sit for 30 or so minutes. (Go for an hour!  )
Clean the terminal and hook it back up. The ECM will re-learn everything it needs to know in a short period of time. Many of us have found and experienced that a good old reboot works wonders.

I have been told the Microsoft had hand in building the "op sys" side of the ECM. If true "re-boot" will fix anything  I just hope they don't start saying "re-install".
