maf sensor 8.1

I suspect I need a MAF sensor as I get a check engine ight when I accelerate. i dont have a scan gauge. My question is how do you disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor? Ive pressed the tabs on the side of the connector and pulled to no avail. Years ago it was much easier laying in the wheel well working but now that Im a geezer-----

I don't have a suggestion, but read all 8.1 posts because we recently went from a P-30 7.4 to Workhorse 8.1 and I'm gathering all information. And, this Geezer uses Tylenol .

First, just go to any Autozone or O'Reileys, they'll give you a scan tool to use.

My guess is the little weather seal is just stuck. rock it a bit.

does the check engine light stay on? My 2004 workhorse would throw a code and go into the limp mode when the MAF needed cleaning. Now I clean it once a year. I use the ultra gauge scanner to clear codes and it is always on to see trans temp.

I can’t recall exactly how the MAF connector is removed, I think pressing or lifting the tab. However, you can remove the MAF from the intake connections and rotate it such that you can see the connection to figure it out.

The sensor wire is removed by squeezing the tab and pulling iu off. I had the same question and finally gust fumbled around until I figured it out. Never applied much pressure.

I broke the clip on mine trying to remove it. Fortunately, the broken part was on the MAF sensor side of the connector so got replaced when I changed the sensor.

Was throwing O2 sensor codes and limping for the last third of a cross-country trip before I figured out it was a dirty MAF sensor and/or air filter. Spent a lot of time clearing codes!

I couldn't get my sensor to disconnect either. I just let my sensor dangle and sprayed it good with MAF cleaner. Replaced the air filter with a new one and it was a whole new rig. Didn't actually need a new sensor.

Didn't need to lay in the wheel well either. With the coach up on its jacks, I was able to reach over the tire and work standing up.

You don’t need a ScanGauge - all it gives you over a regular OBDII scanner is transmission fluid temperature.

I use a FoxWell 301 and if I were to do over, i would have bought a 601.

Either of these units will record “live data” for you, which is important because you really need to know your Long and Short Term Fuel trims of which the MAF is an important component in the equation.
By recording live data, it can be analyzed to help others give you direction as to how you engine is operating and most importantly, maybe prevent you from an expensive meltdown.

I just went thru these issues with our “new to us” ‘02 coach with 37k miles on it. Found the fuel pressure regulator/dampener was failing and ultimately the MAF had failed. This after doing a complete plug/wire/filter/oil change/transmission fluid tune-up and brake recall completion.

The Scangauge II is nice to have for constant monitoring going down the road, that way when the LF1 and LF2 start creeping up you catch it before the engine goes lean and a piston goes BOOM

Isaac- not to be argumentative about the ScanGauge, the FoxWell will give you the same live data as the ScanGauge will while driving down the highway.

What is really needed is the development of an OBDII scanner that allows setting of alarms for those critical readings that help us avoid meltdowns.

Perhaps, but does it easily mount to the dash with velcro and only take up an area a bit larger than a business card

Well, let’s not hijack the OP’s thread - and we should probably start another devoted to OBDII scanners.

All I’ll say is there has to be something better -

And I did a little research after my previous comment this AM - it’s looking like the UltraGuard is now Bluetooth compatible with both iPhone and Android, let’s you set up gauges and alarms, and can read the Allison 1000 5 speed transmission fluid temperature.
Set up a tablet mount over your doghouse and you can have an instrument panel like your flying a 767. ��
