With all the talk about how 10% ethanol mixed gas brings down your mileage, could filling you tank first with plus or premium, then at 1/2 tank topping off with the ethanol blend, would that help to increase the miles per gallon over straight eth. blend?
Best Regards!

Old Snipe;
By the time you pay the difference for the premium gas you may lose more $$ than what is lost by ethanol. I have been using 10% ethanol in my unit since last fall. I keep fuel records and I can't truthfully tell you that I lost or gained mpg. Wind and road conditions always factor in. I average about 6.5 when I tow my Buick and about 7.5 when I don't. It does not seem to make any noticeable difference.

Higher octane gas does not increase mileage.

Ethanol contains less heat energy per gallon.

May sound strange, since you pay more for it, higher octane does not mean that it is "better" fuel. The additive for octane rating is more a measure of burn time for the fuel. Higher octane equates to slower burn. The reason you get a knock with lower octane is the fuel detonates prematurely or too quickly. I am not familiar enough with the ethanol properties to know how it compares.
I have operated equipment with an electronic fuel control that would automatically adjust for the type of fuel used. You could basically burn anything that would go down a pipe and burn. Fuels that were proven acceptable; gasoline, diesel, JP4, JP8 (Jet Fuel). The ability to design flex-fuel engines has been around since the late 50's just not cost effective to produce.

Can't remember exactly but I think that it can absorb 50% of its volume in water before separation occurs. Ethyl, Isopropyl and Methyl will all work, Methyl is the most corrosive. Isopropyl/Rubbing Alcohol is already 30% water so it isn't useful as an absorbant.
Just rambling through old memory banks.

While the MH may handle the Gasohol the directions with my generator state to "NOT" use gasohol. Since I only have 1 fuel tank (thank goodness) I guess the choice is made for me. My experience with cars is that mileage will drop somewhat. My 2000 Grand Caravan is flexfuel but no one sells it around here.

i just saw last Friday on the CBS Evening News where the state of Minnesota has over 200 FFV E-85 filling stations.
I learn stuff every day. Here I though that E-85 meant 85 Octaine equivalent when that's not true. It actually means 85% Ethanol content. Now that's a horse of a different color.

Start thinking about 5 mpg if you could burn E85 in a motorhome.
