No J1850 Activity

I got a No J1850 Activity message in the lower line of the dash LCD. The trans would not down shift on its own except with the grade brake or on the manual shift pad. When I shut the engine off and started it a few minute later, the message cleared. I read on past threads about pulling a fuse and reinserting it to clean the contacts. Which fuse is it and where would it be? Thanks JP

The fuse you are thinking of is #21 but I doubt that is the issue. Most likely it was just a "glitch" in the system. If it continues to occur then you most likely have either a component issue (TAC module, Throttle Position Sensor, etc), a voltage issue (battery) or a wiring issue (chaffed wire, etc).

This didn't by chance happen after the coach was sitting for a while did it?

Hey Jon Thanks for the help. Yes the coach did sit for about a month and the battery did go dead because the parking lights got left on (granddaughter)!!! This accrued after driving about 450 miles so the battery was charged back up. We will be traveling back home next weekend so I will find that fuse and reset it before we travel and we will see if it happens again. Thanks again for the help. JP

Hello JonBrazel, I went to go get my 2003 National Dolphin 6355 out of storage and it was dead with no power. There was no clicking or nothing when trying to start the engine. Long story short, I took the chassis battery home and bench charged it. It was indeed dead, believe it was the fault of the cm detector. Anyhow had the battery checked it was ok for continued useage. so we tried to hook it up and still nothing. Then I noticed it was giving me a code of, No J1850 Activity. I appear to be getting power to the ignition, I tried to check power to starter, then found out the big wire on starter is always hot. I called the dealer that just put a new engine in for me last year and mechanic told me he believe it was something to do with the engine tranny connection with the ignition. I checked the wiring at the tranny and they appeared to be ok, but they seem to glue those connections into the housing connection at the tranny, by the gear linkage. Oh, I did still go buy a new battery and try that incase it was a volt problem. It seems like need to go tomorrow and look under dash for loose grounds or frailed wiring. Can you give me any other things to check out? I am holding up others from getting out of storage. It's quite upsetting. Thanks

Try checking the fuse "ECM/TCM Batt" in the fuse block on the drivers side out front under the hood. Check the rest of those fuses as well.

Hey Jon, Yes I did find a blown fuse under the hood. But it was PCM/TCM-Bat spot on the fuse box. I tried to put another 20amp fuse in , and it blew also. Wish I knew where this wiring goes to. If it goes to the module on the engine, under the doghouse, would I be able to determine if the module is bad? Another helper said it may be a short on the wiring where it goes over the steering column. Thanks for your input.

Thanks to this poster, and the reply by Jon Brazel, I got my RV running again. I had the exact same problem: Engine would not start, and the TCM\ECM fuse kept blowing. After reading these post, I called Jon Brazel and he advised a new TCM. Jon shipped the item and I installed it yesterday. Works great!

Jon Brazel is definitely an asset to this forum and I would recommend his company to anyone needing RV service or advice. (www.brazelsrv.com, 877-786-1576)
