NO left or right turn signal...

Last trip out of town I lost BOTH left and right turn signal. Checked both 5 amp.
fuses, both good. Checked power to both 5 amps. NO 12 volts to either fuses.
Read that the turn signal stick on the steering wheel is a constant problem,
changed it out ....NO 12 VOLTS TO 5 AMP FUSES. Appears the engine sw. powers up everything else in FUSE BLOCK.
Where do I go from here??? Thanks for any input ........coopcolt

Did you find and test the signal light flasher ?

There should be two flashers one for the signal lights one for the emergency ( 4 way ) .

A little information about year, make and model would be helpful.
I have a 2002 Workhorse and can check for the location of the turn signal flasher if it would be helpful. I have changed mine once.

2002 Adventure, W-20 chassis with an 8.1 Chevy.
Yes 20 yrs. ago I changed the flasher out to one that had
a buzzer on it, as I took note that old men want to ride around
with the turn signals on. And I wanted to be proactive on that.
And yes that is the first thing I changed before the turn signal
stick on the steering wheel.
Thanks for the input....coopcolt

Do the turn signal pilot lamps light up when you turn the switch to a left or right turn position?
Do the hazard warning (4 way) flashers work?

There is a fine gentleman on these forums by the name of Ed Gray who I believe worked for a Workhorse dealer. If you tried contacting him he might be able to point you in the right direction to find a wiring diagram for your chassis. I don't know how many former Workhorse dealers have retained records etc. but Workhorse sold out to International and now the former International dealers are Navistar. If you have a Navistar dealer nearby it might be worth a try. Put a plea out on this forum. Someone may have a wiring diagram and be willing to share it with you. You never know.
If it comes down to a switch issue the part you would need may have also been used on other GM vehicles and still be available, possibly even in the aftermarket.

LETMGROW, the hazards work with both the old and new turn signal switches.
Gonna say NO LIGHT without 12 volts to fuses.
Yes for sure, have to have a wiring diagram.
I know that the ignition sw. has been a problem in the past.
But the sw. seems to be applying power to 98% of the fuse block,
but NOT the Left and right fuses for the turn signals.
Thanks for the effort.........coopcolt

Thanks for the input/schematics of the W-horse.
A blind hog may have found a nut!!
The IP EXTN FUSE BLOCK, Fuse #10, TURN B/U (back-up?)
This 15 amp is blown.
So now, why did it blow, and is it related to my problem??
Thanks again, and stay tuned.
I like Arnold, will return..............coopcolt

Your blown fuse may very well be a short in the back up lamp circuit. I'd replace the fuse, test the turn signal lamps and if all checks out leave the ignition on and shift the shift lever into reverse. Let it sit like that for a few minutes. If the fuse blows you may have something as simple as a corroded lamp socket or a shorted bulb. A wire could be chaffed and shorted somewhere. Then again there are cases where a fuse gets tired of working and blows all on it's own.

Still holding, haven't tried to find the cause of the 15 amp that was
blown. It was a GOOD short, NOT a tired fuse. Good ideal about running
threw the gears. But I am thinking something in the back up lamps.
It is one of those things that I will see again. So I will have to check
more into the WHY, once I get it all back together.
Thanks for the help........coopcolt

Learn what you can about the Allison NSBU switch,( Neutral Start Back Up)

Internal issues with the switch can cause a lot of intermittent grief.
