With the key in the on position and engine NOT running, press gas pedal to floor 3 times within 5 seconds. If the display flashes, it should be reset. Good luck, ED

I have 13,000 miles on my rig and have never had an oil change light. Why? Far as I know, the 2 times the oil was changed by a shop (Lazydays), they did not do the accelerator thing. And the 3 times I changed the oil, I know I did not do the accelerator trick.

I had to do the "pump" thing on my 2003 Suncruiser to make it go away. Maybe Lazyday's did it and just didn't tell you and when you change the oil it was based on time not mileage? I'm reaching here, but unless it's broke, it should be warning you unless it's been reset. It doesn't track age, only miles. If you were to run the coach 10 years and only put on 5,000 miles, it wouldn't warn you - even though you should have had 10 oil changes. Could that maybe the case?

How many miles elapse, after reset, before the oil change light comes On?

Hey guys,

The GM oil life monitor system is much more than just a mileage counter. It's a complex program built into the Workhorse chassis Engine Control Module (ECM). GM engineers developed this system after doing extensive studies on how oil breaks down and factors that cause oil breakdown to occur faster or slower.
CLICK HERE for a lot of good info. about this system. Be sure to click the links at the top of the page for "Q & A" and "How it works".

Happy reading!

Yes, that's how my dash displays it also. There is no "light" that comes on, but a display in the message center.

You'll find that after performing the 3-stomp on the gas pedal as described by edgray the message center will display something like "ENGINE OIL RESET" briefly to let you know the system has been reset. It's important to always do the reset after every oil change as the system has no other way to know there's new oil in the crankcase.

Some GM cars and trucks give the driver the ability to actually display the remaining oil life percentage on a driver info. center readout, but unfortunately we can't do this on our motorhomes unless a scan tool is hooked up to the underdash diagnostic connector. Then while looking at all the data parameters on the scan tool one of them is oil life remaining in percent. I have actually done this on mine with a GM TECH-II scan tool that I use daily at work.

So does changing the oil according to the oil life monitor allow you to stay within warranty guidelines? The reason I ask, is that we purchased an extended warranty and I understand they will try to get out of paying a claim if the coach has not been maintained according to the manufacturers' recommendations.

Don't wait for the oil life monitor to tell you when to change your oil, be one step ahead of it. Reset the monitor via the stomp method until next time after you change the oil.

If you are really concerned about what your extended warranty insurance company will or could say, just so that you know, a receipt for service that is dated and having the mileage documented is the best protection you can collect. I don't know of any company that will deny a claim if you have adequate written documentation with receipts that reconciles your log.
