P32 Power Steering Pump

I need some help. I have a Class A P32 Workhorse Chassis and the power steering pump is leaking and needs replaced. Its been at laMesa RV here in Tucson for three weeks trying to find a pump. They canít find one. Any ideas, thoughts or leads would be very much appreciated. It has the 8.1 Vortech and we canít use the coach until we can find a pump. Anyone? Thanks in advance

It would help if you tell us the model year of your coach, the P series chassis was in production for over 30 years, and went through several models of power steering pumps.

Its a 2004 35 ft Condor by RVsion with only 20,000 mi. It sits on the P32 Chassis, an 18,000 lb chassis weight. Workhouse web site shows the pump is discontinued. That Power Steering unit canít be unique to the P32 Chassis?

I had similar problems on my rv.. 2000 7.4l on p32.. I realized that Chevy uses very same light duty truck eng and trans from pickups.. so I used AutoZone. Com.. and I would check Chevy ck2500 or ck3500 for years 2002, 2003, or 2004.. until you find a match.. get it.. see if fits.. free returns if not.. you might have to go with rebuild one.. that is what I did.. while in store and grab a basic automotive repair book for Chevy ck2500 or ck3500 same yr as chassis and there will be pictures are how to change.. eng s nd trans specs .. oh.. sometimes they freak out if you tell them it's for rv.. so don't tell them.. say its for chevy truck... when doing online search.. only use ck2500/ck3500 with yr earlier or same as your chassis.. if the shop you have it at does not know this.. leave if you can.. also you could try general search. Power steering pump for 2003-04 Chevy ck2500 or ck3500.. I have no affiliation with AutoZone.. so I don't care what brand you use.. oh.. you need the one with hydroboost system.. some Chevy trucks don't use hydroboost system option.. and if you come up blank..use diesel engine.. see what that does..
Good luck and keep us posted

If you cross reference one the the two numbers listed on Oemys website it leads you to a cardone pump. Available at rockauto and Orielly.
Even cross referencing the part number from ultra rv leads you to the same pump.

I know the pump on my suburban has a rebuild kit available. Did they consider that? Donít know if itís possible or not.

Using that part number at rockauto shows three pumps available.
The same pump I referenced in my last post.

Detailed Long search

Just got off the phone with Cardone. The looked up the part and the GM Part number 26042589 will NOT fit the Workhorse P32 Chassis. I also called Ultra RV and same, no part! Cardone said to call Advance Auto, Auto Zone, etc and see if my pump can be rebuilt.

Obviously, this is super frustrating plus, we cant use our Motohome as its sitting dead not moving.

Its hard to believe that this P32 Workhorse Chassis was made from 1996 -
2005 and no power steering pump is available?

If you could post pictures.. then we can give you better opinions..

Here is what I had to do.. 1st it's all using basic hand tools.. just time.. I 1st took pump out.. got it on bench.. remove pump from exterior housing.. now you can better see what pump you need.. when you look at part numbers printed inside housing on the pump itself.. maybe that will get you one step closer.
There are rebuilding kits available.. for like 15 bucks last time I did mine.. hope that helps.. if your shop does not rebuild p/s pumps.. do yourself a favor.. get out of there.. or at least.. have them pull it.. you take to shop that does.. and have them put back on..
Good luck and keep us posted

In the original post, you said it was leaking. Must be a really bad leak if the coach is ďsitting deadĒ.
Sorry there is nothing that is a direct replacement part, but hope you can find a competent rebuild shop for it if you can get it removed.
Not that it matters much, but WCC didnít exist until 1999, and they first used the 8.1L motor in 2001. The P32 series had a 454 ď prior to that.
