Interesting and watching - we’ve got an ‘02 W22 chassis and I don’t recall seeing a power steering fluid filter (wasn’t one on our ‘91 P30 chassis with Hydro-Boost either, and I had to replace the Hydro-Boost due to leaking).

Well - you’ve taught me something!

Kevin is on board as ktoutoor - a good guy to talk with and more than willing to tell you what he found out.

Up until he said the new filter was smaller than the old filter, I would have said just get one of the small filter wrenches and all should be good. And if it didn’t fit tight enough, find an old piece of rubber inner tube to make up the difference in diameter.

Kevin's videos are very helpful. I didn't know about this filter either. Just ordered one and a gallon of GM spec power steering fluid.

Don’t know the size. I just used a strap wrench to loosen it.

Idea! - take a broom handle or similar. Drill a hole in one end and put a rope thru the hole. Tie one end of the rope to the other to make a loop. The loop should be a little larger in diameter than the filter.

Slide the loop down over the filter. Turn the broom handle to tighten the rope against the filter, then continue turning to loosen the filter.

Sort of a sideways strap wrench.

Edit: With harleyjt’s comment below, I now remember that such a beast exists.

It’s a strap wrench designed for oil filters. Sideways kind of like what is described above by Mark

Not sure about the original filter, but the WIX 57191 filter uses a 64mm x 14 flute wrench, same as my Onan generator oil filter.
