I am getting ready to change over to synth. Read somewhere about a process to flush remaining fluid out of torque converter to get near 100 % synthetic replacement. Involves disconnecting return line to trans and running in neutral. While collecting and measuring old fluid out of converter and return line until volume equals 19 - 10.6 or about 2 gal. New fluid is added to pan as it goes down. Anybody tried this or have some pointers?

Call an Allison Service Center or Workhorse Customer Support before you attempt this procedure.

MandM.. I have been tempted to do this with my last 2 MoHos, and each time I have been told by a close friend, a long time and expert trannie rebuilder NOT to. I know lots of folks have done it successfuly, but my buddie cautions that if the pump sucks even the slightest amount of air, big damage can/will occcur, and this Allison is a very expensive trannie to fix.. 'Nuff for me"..rgr..

Thanks for the quick strong warnings I'll stick with the double oil change method.

I attended an Allison seminar and the instructor (who really knew his Allison's) made it very clear that "thou shall not attempt to drain the convertor by running it dry". Allison insists on the two-change procedure.

I bit the bullet and changed mine twice to convert to Transynd.

Can you please describe or post a link with the instructions for the "double oil" change method?

abarkl,
I don't remember the web site, but it was part of a post on this forum that I came across several months ago. I thought I printed it but can not find it now. CRS stuff... Based on strong responses from this forum I'd rather not quote/post from memory this process. Sorry.

Marty

You will "find" that many of these issues have been completely covered several times.

I could tell you but show someone how to find the answers and you will have learned more on your own than I could ever share with you one to one.
