We have a 2005 Itasca 29R and it only has a 4 speed transmission. At 55 M.P.H the motor is turning over 2000 R.P.M. How does this compare with the 5 and 6 speed transmissions? It is on a workhorse with an 8.1 engine.

I have a five speed in my Intruder and IIRC as I was doing 60MPH it was more or less parked on 2KRpm. Unless I was going up hill.. And it downshifted then it went 3k, 4k and the speed dropped. then it returned to normal.

Tan, I would say that your RPM for 55 mph is just about right. Fourth gear in your GM transmission is an overdrive gear. My own 5 speed with fifth being overdrive turns 2000 RPM at 57 mph.

Sounds about right. I'm at 1850rpm @ 51mph in 4th gear overdrive with the lesser powered 7.4 engine.

Keep in mind that a 4 speed (Hydramatic 4L80E) equipped chassis in most cases is also going to have a different rear end gear ratio versus a 5 or 6 speed Allison equipped chassis.
