Radiator Shroud Question

My lower shroud looks like this:

Does it need to be replaced or can I put some Eternabond tape on it and keep going? I had some gorilla tape on it but it cracked.

I don't know when this happened although I suspect it happened when the engine was replaced. The fan is a little beat up at the tips, is this a problem?

After reading another thread, I checked the clearances around the shroud and found that the right side seems to be missing a shim of some kind. There is more than an inch of clearance on the right and less than 1/4 inch on the left.

What to do?

If you go to the Newmar forum here on IRV2 and click on Part 1 & 2 Quick tips and easy mods then go to Dales web site Oemys and go to tech tips and search out fan shroud fix. It is obviously to late for yours but just a mfg flaw in regards to securing it I guess.

Got it! Thanks.

Can I repair the existing shroud or should I replace it?

Still wondering about the gap on the right side.

I obtained a Workhorse part number for the side seal from a WH service rep a while ago. #W0006215. Haven't verified this as a good number yet.

I repaired mine using heavy rubber material and contact cement. Did this for the fan blade worn slots. Similarly on the right side. That being done-- now works fine. I will still consider permanent repair with new parts as I am not too sure about long term heat affect on the materials I used.

I did find that any large gaps as you had indicated will adversely affect the function of the fan clutch! This will manifest itself with higher than normal temperature gauge indications and less fan roar when you would expect it.

Either way you go will help your cooling system.

Check to make sure your top shroud is not slipping out from under the bolts.

There are 3, one in the center and one on each side of the top. This might be one reason for the large gap on the sides.

Mine came from Workhorse with the rubber strips in the left photo. The right photo shows what they look like installed. Since mine came stock with these, I can only assume the Workhorse part number M&EM mentioned are these strips.

bruceh, I say; just patch it and keep on truckin`. I'm runnning Gorilla tape at the moment over a similiar hole. I do have a bunch of Eternabond tape samples in case the Gorilla lets go.

Many thanks to Fulltimers for the pictures. I checked my shroud and the rubber strip on the right side is just flat not there. Will check for bolt slipage this morning.

I have gorilla tape on the shoud for the time being and I have some Etrernabond once I know that there is no more contact.
