Reverse light switch

Can someone in the know please verify if a 1998 Chevy P30 chaasis 7.4L 4L80E tranny has a reverse light switch in addition to the neutral safety switch. If so, is it on the steering column or does it screw into the transmission. Thanks in advance.

Your P30 has a "Range Switch". It is a multifunction device mounted on the transmission shift shaft. Does not thread into the tranny, just slips over the shift shaft and has 2 bolts to hold it still and allow for adjustment.

It tells the PCM what gear you are in, switches the backup lights and is the Park / Neutral Safety Switch. All in one.

Amazon has the best deal I found. Look up a Standard Motor Products part #NS85T. About $28.

Already replaced that with no joy. In my research the P37 chassis of this vintage that is a 2 wire switch just for the reverse lights. It is one of 2 types. Either mounted on the steering column or the type that screws into top of the transmission. This is in addition to the neutral safety switch which I have replaced.
