Steering play.
My 2008 Winnebago 35 J on a Workhorse chassis requires both hands on the wheel all the time. There is play left and right. This is problematic at lower highway speeds. Is this the norm or should it be "tight" like a car or pickup truck? Are there adjustments to make or is replacement needed?

Sounds like this is a new coach to you? It should not require both hands or drive as you describe. Before adding any aftermarket improvement devices suggest to ensure tires pressures are set per weight, axle weights and balance are ok, front end alignment is correct, no worn or damaged steering or suspension components, etc.

Vsheetz, I have had this coach for 2+ years, tires are new psi set per chassis placard. Weighing scheduled for February. I have driven box trucks in the past new ones had tight steering older ones had som play. Recently read some older posts about steering box swaps & wondered if my conditions are from wear or design. I don't know much about power steering box designs or adjustments. Play in wheel is at highway speeds 45mph & up.

I have steering play on the 82 PA and i believe I need to have the Bell Cranks replaced. I watched the Vendors Video on the Henderson Supper steer Bell Cranks, I'm sold.

ALAN: I'm GUESSING your coach is on a W24 chassis. If it is, there were "some" around that time frame that were built with a steering gearbox that had a high ratio, which made it very easy to turn at slow speeds, but a real handful at higher speeds. Unfortunately, there isn't an EASY fix for this issue, because the bolt pattern is "different" from the gearboxes with a more traditional ratio, so you can't simply install the other gearbox.
However, I think there is some good news to be found at BRAZEL in Centrallia, WA ( a sponsor here). I suggest you contact JON to learn what their fix involves,......... but I'm betting it won't be cheap. Good luck.
