Vortec 8100 serpentine belt chirping

The original belt was chirping at idle, so I replaced it with one from CarQuest, which I think is made by Gates.
That fixed the chirping for about 3 days, and it is now chirping again.
When we had the motorhome serviced on the trip, I asked the service manager about it. He said it was probably the belt, but did not recommend a Workhorse belt. He recommended a Goodyear belt, but did not have one in stock.
No one locally knows where to get a Goodyear belt.

Any ideas, and does any of this make any sense?

Got a chirper here myself, but the belt looks fine. Had the mechanic take a look when he did the state inspection. I'm sure he would have jumped at the chance if he thought it needed replacement.

Check your tensioner pulley bearing. I sprayed mine – from above- with Castrol Chain Lube (for motorcycle chains). It quieted it for now. If the noise returns, I will replace it.

I used some belt dressing. Only have the problem when it is cold outside. The belt dressing takes care of the rest.

In the Fall of 2007, during the warranty period on my Airstream Land Yacht Gas MH on P32 chassis I had the same problem. Workhorse ok'd the replacement of serpentine belt, but this did not fix the problem. I took it back to the Workhorse service center and this time they replaced it with a Goodyear Gator belt (also ok'd by Workhorse). Have not had a problem since. By the way, the place I go to is Cauley Chevrolet, a Detroit area Chevy dealer. They said they have the same problem on many of their Corvettes and the Goodyear Gator belt solves that problem, also. If you would like, I can try to get the part number for you.

A Goodyear Gatorback belt will fix it. The 8.1 in light trucks did the same thing and that was the fix.

I would appreciate it. It would be worth a new belt to get rid of the squeek, and I can use the squeeker as a backup. Thanks!

RMTala: WELCOME to iRV2.com We are glad you joined and posted your first helpful tip.

Is Bando a brand name or a style/type of belt? I'm not familiar with that name. Thanks and again, WELCOME!!

Sorry, I sort of lost track of this thread. I checked with my WH service center and they had not recorded the part # of the Goodyear Gator belt. So, when I have time, and an assistant, I plan to shimmy under the front end of my MH and have someone turn the motor over until I can read the number off of the belt. When I do, I plan to buy a spare and will post the part #. Bob

padillab, Be careful. You can also read the number from the sides through the tire wells.

You should do the turning, turn the ignition off, remove and place the keys on the seat.

I used the number from Oemy's page - Gates 38258. I received A NAPA (Canadian Pet Boys etc.) belt 061080. Made by Gates and called a Micro-V At. I will cary it as a spare untill I get an assistant to help replace it. Oh - yes it says on the package "that before any service work on the belt begins, be sure that the motor or engine is off". Good idea ea?

Are you saying that the Goodyear belt is better than the Gates?
