W22 front stabilizer bar bolt/nut socket size

Hey all,

Picked up a 2-1/2” front stabilizer bar a few weeks ago for the subject coach.

I’m going to have to buy a socket as I don’t have anything that big. Anyone know the size? I’m thinking it’s metric, but it may be SAE.

I’ve looked in the Workhorse info that I have but have not found it yet.

FWIW - and at 275 Ft/lb’s tightening spec, I know I’m in for a workout.

TIA!

Well boys ‘n girls -

Got out there over the weekend and changed the front end torsion bar to the newer 2-1/2” square one.

They are directly interchangeable with the 2” square one shipped on chassis from about 2001 - 2004.

The nuts are 28mm. I was able to loosen using a 24” x 1/2” breaker bar after a brief sitting after application of the acetone and transmission fluid “juice”, followed by using my impact wrench to get the bolts all the way off.
Nuts are locking nuts so you will need a driver (or strong arms) to get them all the way off.

FWIW - the leaf spring shackle bolts in that same area are 30mm. Earlier chassis did not have a Teflon shim on the top of the spring knuckle, and the tight fit with the lower Teflon shim in place will cause front end rattle.
Workhorse wants $105.00 for a kit of 2 shims which were provided on later chassis.
I ordered a UHMW-PE tube x 12” long that can be cut to make either 4 or 8 shims.

That mod with pictures will be posted on a different thread.

FWIW - the UHMW-PE tube was ~$35 shipped from McMaster-Carr. Can be fabricated (in small amounts) with woodworking tools.
